Boolean Strings Network

The Internet Sourcing Community

I am an IT Recruiter trying to dig through our own IT firm's Taleo (slightly modified enterprise edition). Good at Boolean compared to most - likey a novice here in this group.

My objective is to only search on resumes using typical keyword search strings within the tool.

The problem is that the search ALSO returns matches from correspondence, notes and other communications send over the last 13 years to these candidates (i.e. "does not have any visual studio" in a note is a hit on a "visual studio" search and any posting we send to candidates become keywords that match when we later search.

Aargh - I have plenty of people to fill the roles, but now way to filter down to them (db is 20,000 or so). Any way to restrict/exclude/filter a boolean search to just a Word, txt, or PDF resume within Taleo? Any apps out there for that?

Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I have the same issue with Taleo, the advanced search allows for boolean search logic and stemming but searches everything in a candidates's profile. Why would you not include the option to just search the candidates resume or attachments? I've tried posting on their user forums previously, but there isn't much traffic there. I've asked web support and I'm waiting on an answer.

taleo frustrates me in so many ways, its a love-hate thing.

Exactly!!!

I work at $1.2 Billion dollar firm, 8500 employees and all we do is consulting with 20-35 reqs open at anytime in my branch. I have 10,000 folks in my db and it frustrates me to no end that Corp does not feel figuring this out is important. I have the people I need to fil the req - but I can't get through the clutter to identify them - have to open each resume one by one.

Any suggested Taleo forums? Thanks!

Dave:

With other ATS you can narrow it down to the extension of the file like doc, docx, pdf version etc and then you can search the keywords.

I have worked on Taleo, peopleclick & Brassring(kenexa), it works for brassring.
Another way would be to mass email 4+ years old resumes, if they are available they will re-apply OR update their profile. I believe Taleo will allow you to bulk/mass email upto 1000 at a time.

Thanks
unfortunately, the problem is not in finding the resumes or corresponding attachments....it is in getting Taleo to search only the resume and not other profile pieces like tracking/comments, etc. As dave's visual studio example shows this problem can cause a lot of false positives to appear in your search results.

Have you had any success using the related terms function or concept search (I don't think all versions have these features though)? You can search off an ideal candidate's resume or from a requisition.

I've gone through Taleo search training and was really hoping to take it to the next level but it's much more basic than I had hoped. The advanced search does basically search everything though. I'm happy to provide a list from training if anyone wants it, but it's just about everything, including recruiter comments. I find the search options very confusing at times because there are so many different ways to search, I am not sure which really is best.
melissa - I've tried the concept search, it doesn't work with boolean logic, instead it matches resumes based on frequently used words. i took some training as well and I've looked thru the support documentation but I've found both to be lacking a bit.

is anyone beta testing the rss feeds?

Thanks for the additional suggestions - all good. It is not the search per se, it is just getting at Only the resume.

I was hoping there might be a "(intitle:bio OR inurl:bio OR intitle:profile OR inurl:profile OR intitle:“about me” OR inurl:”about me” OR intitle:homepage OR inurl:homepage)" I could point to my Taleo homepage that might work.
dave -

i checked with taleo websupport and they said its not possible to search just the contents of the resumes.

goooooooooooooo taleo!
Now THAT's an enterprise tool!

Game over on this thread then. Thanks for reaching someone there - I was not able to.
