Boolean Strings Network

Why is it that I can take a query that uses quotes from others pages (like the booleanstrings.com) and paste them into google and get results, but if I type the exact same string into the browser I get "no results found" and recommendations an results "without quotes"?  Can anyone tell me whats happening?

Not sure what you're doing but here's 1 possibility. This has made me keep all my strings in excel never MS Word
If using MS Word to save strings, Word has more than 1 way to show quotes. One way the quotes work in a search, the other they don't.

If you save you strings in Excel, it uses the correct quotes by default.

Now you can go into MS word and select the correct quotes, but I found copying them over worked better for me

That's bizarre! A couple of q's come to mind...Is Google the default search engine in your browser? Where are you typing the string into the browser? (i.e. into Google.com or into the address bar, toolbar, etc) Can you share a specific example?

The situation that Alan is referring to has to do with Office smart quotes. When that happens, however, you tend to get more results as the search engine looks for any instances of the terms on a page instead of the specific phrase. Regardless, here's how to turn those off: http://www.sourcecon.com/news/2011/05/23/solved-the-case-of-the-que...
