I cannot figure out what's wrong with my string.  I'm trying to find folks that went to the Air Force Academy.

USAFA (site:www.linkedin.com/pub OR site:www.linkedin.com/in) -"pub/dir" Education

Try the following in Google:

site:www.linkedin.com ("education * * usafa" | "education * * united states air force academy") (inurl:in | inurl:pub) -dir

Gary

Donna,

To add to Gary's reply - nothing is wrong, per se, with the string. I mean, it's a viable string that returns results. I would change your final piece to -inurl:"pub/dir", because I think that's what you want that part to do.

Gary's suggestion probably gives you results closer to what you wanted, though. Would also suggest adding "usafa * logo" within the parenthetical, as there are several relevant alumni groups that someone may have joined, even if they didn't complete their education section on LI.
