Seems to be nothing wrong with your string, Edna

Your string does work as there are over 4K results using Google, however you are getting just "account directors" vs SVP "account directors" since you have an OR in between. Try this one to get closer to SVP's

site:www.linkedin.com (svp OR "senior vice president") "account director" promotions (inurl:in | inurl:pub) -inurl:dir

Hi Edna:

I seem some cleaning up you might do in your syntax, but I think perhaps before we get to that your search criteria is quite broad.
Consider location, technical skills or industry as additional qualifiers. Then you might add those to:

site:linkedin.com (("vice president" | svp | vice-president) promotions) (inurl:in | inurl:pub) -intitle:dir -inurl:dir
Chris - just a note - if you don't put an area in your string, you need to use site:www.linkedin.com otherwise with just site:linkedin.com you will get results from all countries vs just the US. Not sure if Edna can use results from anywhere in the US which is why she may not have put a location in.

Thanks to both of you, both have helped me with this.
Gary - Great Tip on the site command to pull US results...I have been wondering about that! As always, thanks for sharing!
