I have an interesting situation here, looking for some advice/opinions.  I work with an executive search firm, and we have sourced a director-level candidate that looks pretty good, and we're considering submitting her to our client.  Here's the catch:

The candidate's first name is Barbara-Jean.  But, she only revealed that to us after we asked, because she has always gone by, "BJ."  In fact, that is how she presented herself to us by email and on her resume.  I've always heard that nicknames (and even shortening your name, like "Jess" instead of Jessica) can be a poor choice, as it seems unprofessional.

So, I'd love some input and opinions on how we should handle this situation.  Tell the candidate her nickname seems unprofessional?  Or, present her to our client, and let them decide?

I would just play dumb and call her by her first name - Barbara. Your professional appearance//background really matters in the interviewing process. That's a funny situation to be in though.
