This interactive, two-part class is based on our book Custom Search – Discover more:.
Google recently renamed their Custom Search Engines (CSEs) to “Programmable Search Engines,” but we like the old name better. CSEs have long been a favorite tool for experts searching the Internet. They benefit researchers in many ways: lessening the need for advanced Boolean operators, expanding the limits of Google’s search capabilities, eliminating annoying CAPTCHAs triggered by complex searches, and providing a way for advanced users to share searches with less experienced team members. CSEs can also search for structured information on the web – such as a name, job title, company, and more.
Our presentation will introduce you to the full scope of what CSEs can do, including some CSE “hacks” to extend the reach of your searches. Some advanced CSE features require a more technical background, but anyone can learn to create simple CSEs to make life easier for them and their team. You can build some handy, specialized CSEs from scratch in minutes!
You’ll also get access to more than twenty Custom Search Engines built and used by our Master Sourcers, which you can use as-is or take as inspiration for developing your own CSEs.
Class Outcomes: You will learn the what, why, and how of Google Custom Search Engines for Recruitment. After this class, you’ll be able to build simple, powerful Custom Search Engines in minutes.
