I only know that Bookmarklets:
1) help search more quickly, and in ways not possible with a search engine ,
2) are free,
3) and help extract data from a webpage....
Can anybody help me understand it and share their experience using them. I am completely a novice to it.

Copy this line to you Firefox prompt and press return. This simple Google Search bookmarklet then will open a prompt window asking you to enter a keyword. After that you'll get the google search results for your keywod. The trick is you don't have to load the google page first. That's all. That javascript line can be 'coverted' into a simple link on your own homepage or into an internet-brwoser bookmarks button. So that you just have to push the button to start the bookmarklet.
There are a lot of useful ready-to-use bookmarklets on the internet.
