Have you ever built a custom search engine? Check out mine (above) and let me know what you think. It currently searches LI, FB, and Twitter.

Hi Guys

So how does one go about writing their own search engine? Or where do we find some information on the subject?

Thanks in advance
Tony

PS Irina I think your link is broken .
Hi Miles,

I agree! More than that, I believe that a sourcer may want to quickly build a custom search engine just to do sourcing for a particular task (and then let go of the engine). Custom engines give us access to search features that the main Google search doesn't, such as using templates in URLs.

Hi Irina,

Hope all is well with you. I'm half obsessed with custom searches.. I built this search for candidates and a few other ones for HR research.

Every recruiter should use these custom searches and build one for themselves too for their individual industries...

Hi Irina, I read this post with great interest and have tried both options within this post - great results.

Are there instruction anywhere on how to set these up to ensure you only get results with profiles and CV's back

Great post
many thanks
Paul
Hello Irina,

Thanks for sending this along. This is great. I haven't done this yet. Will try today.
For searching on LinkedIn or Facebook, or Twitter, or others.
I am assuming you have to put the domain name or URL where indicated to tap into social media sites. Yes?

Thanks Much.

Maureen
Yes, put some URLs and exclude some URLs. You can use templates.

Hi Miles,

I have briefly taken a look at this new Google app. Would you be kind enough to discuss the steps, strings, and actions you took to create your sourcing algorithm. I very much like to discuss your creation on my blog site at: www.netrecruiter.net

Thank you.
