I am sure this answer is too simple but I am going to give it a shot. From Google: site:linkedin.com "executive and Technical Recruiter" "San Francisco Bay Area" -inurl:dir

Thanks,
Chrissy
Hi Christine - thanks for trying but this doesn't explain it.
Compare the screenshot above (saying "Private") with my LinkedIn profile http://www.linkedin.com/in/irinashamaeva

Irina,

My first guess was the same as "Chrissy's". However, I think you found this screenshot profile as a result of two things:

1). You did a LinkedIn web site search using Google with keyword Private or Out of Network.

2). You came across this profile as a result of another search and this private profile is a reference?

Regards,

Tom
Tom,

Search on Google on "out-of-network" and "private" is not going to help... Thanks for trying :)

Irina,

My guess is that you logged into Linked in, typed a keyword such as Brain Gain Recruiting into the search box (with "People" selected), and clicked on the profile listed with the job title but not a name displayed (was the top listing for me). I did that and came up with the exact screen as the one you have above.

Thanks,
Frank
Hi Frank,
Great that you reproduced it; please feel free to attend the webinar.
Why did it not show my name?

Thanks Irina!

I am confused about why it did not show your name on that profile I found, even though I also found your public profile with your name on it just by using a site:linkedin.com search. I thought I created the "private" listing on my own profile by changing the setting for showing connections, but now I have no idea how I did it. I am looking forward to your webinar so I can figure out the confusing aspects of Linkedin!!

Irina,

I was not able to pull up any private profile for you from LI - I tried what Frank describes above and several variations thereof and am left scratching my head!! Thinking aloud - I am a 1st connection to you but that should not preclude me from pulling any and all of your profiles? Also, on another point to concur with you, the Public URL on a profile provides full access to one's info (LI Settings tell you that too) and any info entered by the user is visible. Clicking on "full profile" puts you a step in the backwards direction - interesting. I also tried various site:linkedin.com strings in Google but did not seem to hit upon any private profile for you. Typically when I hit upon a private profile I have been using the site: command with company name/keywords/geo/title etc to get to the real name. Once upon a time we would simply use the site: command with the ID # of the Profile Member from the their LI profile URL - no longer works now with so many new members and the changes made by LI. I will be interested in attending your webinar to see what other new ways you can share!! Thanks for the challenge and your knowledge! Ruth Sarkari
Afterthought - you changed your settings and name to "Private" on one your profiles? But that does not answer why I can't find it again!!
Hi Ruth,

Thanks for your thoughts.
No, I have not changed any settings on my profile http://www.linkedin.com/in/irinashamaeva
