LinkedIn Recruiter/LinkedIn Pipeline: a Quick Overview

For those members who have access to LinkedIn Recruiter or RPS:

I'd like to open a discussion on how to use it in productive ways. They have some good documentation and training, so we'll be looking at additional information and tips.

For me personally, InMails on LinkedIn, available in "personal" packages as well in in LinkedIn Recruiter, are worth paying for.  Of course, being great sourcers we can figure out how to contact the target candidate otherwise but it takes extra time. If we are not connected and do not share groups, InMail is an excellent way to go. LinkedIn Recruiter offers a large number of InMails and also mass-InMailing.

Extra search facets and seeing more search results within a search do not matter as much to me.

Working with your teams through projects is useful functionality. If you didn't have Recruiter I suppose it could be arranged through another system.

The main attraction for me and the best feature is the Talent Pipeline. From talking with others, it seems that it's currently under-used.

The Talent Pipeline allows us to upload resumes or excel lists with names and contact info to our account and have this info "stick" to LinkedIn profiles if there's a match. If there's a matching profile, you get additional info for that profile, such as a resume or contact info, "attached" to it. Automatic matching works very reliably.

For the cases of a potential match, we are offered to attach external info to a matching profile we would locate manually, by searching.

Finally, if there's no match, LinkedIn creates an object "like" a LinkedIn profile. Here's what it looks like:

As the result of an upload we get a database to search within, consisting BOTH of LinkedIn data and our own private data. This is what I find to be the most valuable piece of the package.

Your comments and shared tips are welcome!

This is how an uploaded list (in this case, I got the list from GitHub) added to a project looks like:

Unfortunately, right now (2/19/2013)  we are experiencing LinkedIn bugs, in the way search is processed. It seems to happen in relation to Projects and/or locations in LinkedIn Recruiter. This is a serious bug.

It is demonstrated below:

Correct me if I am wrong but we don't "own" the information.  If for some reason a person would leave their current company or the company closes or LI starts charging more than what is fair, we lose all of that info.  Whatever, you get my point, we keep nothing - we lose it all.

Judy,

As far as I know you "own" the piece that you have uploaded as a company.

However there's no way to export it unless at the point where you close your account.

Hi Irina,

Regarding the ability to get your data from Linkedin (for example notes you have entered for profiles saved into the Profile Organizer of a Talent Finder account) I am wondering if you would close for example a Talent Finder account to upgrade to a Linkedin Recruiter account how you could "transfer" these data to your new account ? And if it is not possible to transfer then how to get these data exported ?

I am waiting for a reply from Linkedin but maybe someone has done this before ?

I had a colleague who scraped Github using Outwit and did the same thing creating a project; it was very cool. My big issue is trying to find a way to export profiles of candidates I have in PROJECTS in LinkedIn recruiter. I have a project with about a thousand candidates and I'm trying to figure out how to export it to jobvite - or export it to something else that would allow me to export it to Jobvite.. Any suggestions? I greatly appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Dawn,

Anyone who has Recruiter should have decent customer support, so you could ask them.

However, as far as I know, LinkedIn doesn't allow export, except for the clumsy export into PDF, on purpose. LinkedIn used to provide export into Excel tables in Recruiter, but it's possible no more.

It's pretty clear why this is done. Everything can be imported into Recruiter; not much can be exported; so we stay with Recruiter. However, this puts us (recruiters) in a vulnerable position: should something happen with the data, we have NO backup.

Of course, as you are correctly pointing out, not being able to export also stops reasonable integration attempts with ATS systems. What does Jobvite have to say about this?

LinkedIn has stopped export but it doesn't provide an ATS system of its own. As great as the Talent Pipeline is for combining our data with their data, it is not (yet?) an ATS system.

Using something like Github at least to back up your data could be a good idea. (Don't tell anyone though; I am no lawyer but this might be breaking agreements you have signed with LinkedIn.)
