Try this substituting the group you want for my example:

site:www.linkedin.com "boolean strings" (inurl:pub | inurl:in) -inurl:dir

Make sure the group you are searching for is spelled exactly the way it is represented on LinkedIn. Search directly on LI in the groups search (in the drop down box instead of the People search box) to find out the exact spelling of the group you want.

Gary,

Thanks for the advice. I ran the string as follows: site:www.linkedin.com "Cyber Infrastructure Performance Security and Stability Measurement" (inurl:pub | inurl:in) -inurl:dir. I got 145 results, the group has over 700 members. Any idea what is going on as to the other 550 members

Marc,

I think you'll find it's closer to 90-100 results. Not sure the added controls normally required to limit directory results from LI are needed here, as I don't think groups are included in the summaries that pop up in directory search results. Tried running it both ways on a few groups and got identical results.

Members are not obligated to share each group they belong to on their profiles. I think about half of mine are not listed on my profile (I ride along at the max, have to keep dropping to add new, and I think the long, long list just gets messy looking) at any given time. So, that could be a big part of it.

Not aware of methods to find group members who choose not to show it on their profile without belonging to the group.

Unless it's specifically created as a closed group (corp alumni, etc), easiest way to find out who's in a group is to join. Worst they can do is deny your request, right?

OK got it, thanks for all the help
Marc,

(In addition to what others have said) by using site:www.linkedin.com you are (pretty much) restricting your search to the people in the US. Try site:linkedin.com instead, to include members from 99 other countries.

Got 198 results on Google from inurl:pub OR inurl:in "Cyber Infrastructure Performance Security and Stability Measurement " site:linkedin.com

Got 344 results on Yahoo!

I am still not sure how come the other 1/2 of the members are hiding. I agree with Dave that joining might be a good idea.

Thanks for all the interesting questions.

Could somebody elaborate more here about this?

Good catch, Irina!

I should have indicated the site:www.linkedin.com was for US only-

Thanks for pointing that out!
