Searching by location in the UK on LinkedIn

Recently I was asked if I knew how to do a UK location-based search on LinkedIn and realised I didn’t because I didn’t know what the full list of UK LinkedIn locations was. This meant that I couldn’t determine if I had all those locations in any defined region and I couldn’t find a list of ALL UK locations anywhere.

Examining LinkedIn, it seems to have major locations like the town of Stevenage and allocates a code to these i.e. in-gb-4630-Stevenage with minor locations within the town of Stevenage retaining this code and the word ‘Stevenage’ on the person’s profile.

Using Irina Shamaeva’s suggestion of site:uk.linkedin.com/title/senior -inurl:0 I could see in the results URLs like:

uk.linkedin.com/title/senior-account-manager/in-gb-4576-exeter‎

and

uk.linkedin.com/title/senior-sales-associate/in-gb-4573-london‎

 

Thus I thought 4576 referred to Exeter and 4573 referred to London

By trial and error I determined that the UK location number range was actually 4542 to 4657

By using site:uk.linkedin.com/title/ " " inurl:4542 and all the other numbers in the range I’ve got the full list of LinkedIn UK locations below. For ease of use I’ve added their root Postcode and my attempt at a regional allocation (apologies in advance for any errors).

Now if you want to do UK geographic searches on LinkedIn just sort the spreadsheet by region so you can determine the major LinkedIn location names in each region.

Go into LinkedIn advanced search

 

Tick all the ‘Relationship’ boxes

 

In the ‘Title’ box put the job title(s) (You can do more than 1 i.e. “area manager” OR “regional manager”

 

In the ‘Location’ box add the LinkedIn location names 1 at a time

 

In the ‘Industry’ box select the industries

 

This will give you what you want.

 

For example, if I want all Buyers, Buying Managers & Trading people in the North East of the UK in Oil & Gas or Construction

 

Tick all the ‘Relationship’ boxes

 

Title is something like ‘buyer OR buying OR trading -trainee –assistant’

 

Location (from the spreadsheet) is Newcastle upon Tyne, Cleveland, Sunderland, Durham & Darlington

 

Industry is Oil & Gas & Construction

 

Whilst this method doesn’t give candidates that reside in the nominated location(s) who have only got United Kingdom as their location it does give 73 high quality potential candidates which is a decent start.
